ISEA Project Phase-II envisages setting up of four (4) thematic research centers as Information Security Research and Development Centres (ISRDCs) with state of the art infrastructure and development capabilities at various premier academic and R&D institutes like IISc, IITs etc for facilitating generation of human resource for carrying out R&D activitiesleading to development of technologies, products/solutions etc,

These Centres would provide a platform to identify, nurture, mentor and guide the talented researchersand faculty from various colleges/institutes and professionals from the industry. These Centres would mentor and support the Resource Centre (s) and Participating Institutes of ISEA phase-II in terms of monitoring the activities, guiding research and training the faculty.

Responsibilities of ISRDC

  • To carryout research ? starting from basic/fundamental research leading to applied research and development of products and solutions in identified thematic areas leading to building indigenous capability of strategic importance.
  • To identify Graduation/Post Graduation students with potential to become faculty / core researchers and provide a platform for carrying out research work.
  • To mentor as well as monitor the RCs & PIs attached to them.
  • To guide the researcher and faculty from different colleges / institutes and professional from the industries.
  • To collaborate with international research community in the identified thematic areas.
  • To conduct post-doctoral, PhD, and MS by research and also attract research scholars from other subject streams.
  • To provide facilities for the industrial professionals to carry out the research for the market issues/ live problem in the industry.
  • To carryout research in critical areas of government sector pertaining to national security.
  • Organise Annual Appraisal Workshop for the RC-PI cluster attached to the thematic lab ? ISRDC.
  • Organizing international conferences/seminar/workshops
  • Development of Learning Material, Virtual labs, etc. in identified areas
  • Build capabilities to develop indigenous products and solutions by creating a network of ISRDC, RCs, PIs with C-DAC. The mandate of Academic and Research institutions would be to carryout research at basic/fundamental/applied levels and generate new knowledge, while the CDAC would provide the interface converting this knowledge into viable products and solutions which would be deployed successfully.
  • Suitable Information system would be put in place in all the RCs & PIs to track the students who had been trained under this program. The alumni corner to track the students who have undergone academic courses would be done through common ISEA website.

Launching formal courses on virtual mode using NKN

As a part of Learning Module development, it would be worthwhile to develop several one semester modular courses in the area of Information Security. These would be spawned as user oriented M.Tech. Programme and courses would be offered jointly over NKN by ISRDCs, RCs/PIs. Students can registers at RCs/PIs following suitable selection procedure. This would facilitate expanding the capacities and reach wider section of professionals and others.

The following programs can be implemented through NKN:

  • One semester formal modular course on Information Security
  • Online labs for Government officials
  • Information security courseware repository for the benefit of RCs, PIs and other Implementing Agencies
  • Deployment of E-Learning courses to continuously support professionals with requisite flexibility
  • Creating a separate virtual group for ISEA?s participating institutions.
  • Proof of concept labs in Information Security.
  • Technology Forecasting and the concerned lab analysis can be planned through NKN facility. The potential of the NKN to be used for getting access to latest trend in the subject area which would be used effectively for Technology forecasting, trend analysis, tracking the R&D developments, etc

Faculty Training & Syllabus revision:

It is proposed to suitably address/incorporate the lessons learnt from implementing the current project in terms of currency of syllabus in-line with the emerging needs and regular updating of faculty in sync with these changes, by launching suitable Faculty Training program and syllabus revision as given below:
  • Each ISRDC would conduct Advance Faculty Training Programs in line with their thematic research area through short duration modular courses for the benefit of RCs and PIs.
  • As the Information Security is constantly evolving with emergence of newer technologies and new research area, there is a need to continuously revise the syllabus. But, the syllabus revision cannot be undertaken until two batches pass out. This would lay a restriction of five years tenure for under graduate level syllabus and three years tenure for masters. However, this limitation would be overcome by ensuring that the minor/major project works undertaken by the students are of current /emerging topics.
  • Each ISRDC, RC would announce a Faculty Training Program calendar well in advance. These training programs would be of short duration modular courses and would be aimed at the faculty of the PIs. Each cluster would identify and nurture a pool of experts from academic institution, industries etc. Technology enhanced learning including virtual laboratory would be extensively deployed for wider spread of such Faculty Training Program.
